Roma, tradizione che resiste
In our reality nothing is static, everything is in constant transformation, from energy to matter.
Culture and traditions manifest themselves as a reflection of needs and habits of human beings throughout time, and thus subject to constant evolution.
It is of vital importance to be able to embrace societies transformations, its renewals and need of renewal, but it is undeniable to feel a great sadness and sense of loss when traditions and customs of our ancestors slowly disappear.
“Roma, Tradizione che Resiste”, (“Rome,Resilient Tradition”) is a photography research project on the “survivors” of this city of passed generations; a city that lived and pulsed in a very different way that it does today.
Clearly with a nostalgic calling, I capture what still “resists” the passing of time, being as it was 50 or 70 years ago. Artisans, restaurant owners, artists, market vendors, store owners, mechanics, bicycle repair shops, furniture restorers. A Rome immortalized in the movies by great artists such as Alberto Sordi, and later by actors such as Vittorio Gasman, Nino Manfredi, Gigi Proietti, Enrico Montesano and Carlo Verdone….a really “roman” Rome, simple and genuine popular neighborhoods, rich in tradition and spirit of adaptation to the adversities of daily life of their time.
